CALLUM CAIRNS SENSEI LOVES KARATE

I love Karate! After starting Karate at the age of 9 with Myles Travers Sensei at the JKS Rosneath Dojo, I was hooked. The older I became, the more invested I grew. Initially, my goal was to challenge myself and advance to the next belt. Suddenly, I found myself entering my first Karate competition. This was all inspired by my stepfather, Derek Hazlett Sensei, who served as an exceptional example of what hard work and dedication can achieve. He was invited to compete for the JKS Scotland National Team and participated in top-level and international competitions. Witnessing his success motivated me to seek out that same level of excitement. This set the bar officially, leading me to work harder than ever before. I attended squad training sessions and competed in lower-level competitions, putting in my utmost effort to earn medals. Eventually, the day came when I was asked to join the team myself, providing me with countless precious memories that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Unfortunately, I took a 7-year hiatus from Karate after breaking my ankle while playing rugby and became an inactive, unfit teenager. However, I have made a strong comeback and am now competing for the JKS Scotland National Team. I am hungrier than ever and eager to bring all of you along on this journey with me.

If you are starting Karate for the first time, simply show up and put in your hard work. We will guide and shape you into a champion.

Have you taken a long break from Karate or another martial art and do not know how to get back into it? Come to JKS Clyde, and we will show you the way.

Your journey begins as easily as booking a free trial lesson.

What People Say

"Callum Cairns Sensei has trained with JKS Arrochar and assisted with coaching here for many years. He is a very knowledgeable and dedicated Karateka. One of his strong points is that he is a very approachable person. He has covered classes for me on many occasions and I have had nothing but great feed back."

Derek Hazlett (JKS Arrochar)

"Justin "

Callum Sensei has got a great way of explaining why we train certain moves, what they would be used for and when. I find that this helps me to visualise those situations and therefore improve my technique. He has also been doing some one on one with my son who says his patience and explanations are really helping him get back into karate. If you train with Callum Sensei you're going to progress and have fun doing it.

"Helen"

I am starting my karate journey slightly later in life than some, and I was feeling less than confident entering the dojo for the first few times. Callum Sensei has an aura of calm and patience around him which instantly put me at my ease. He is extremely knowledgeable and committed which is exactly the inspiration needed to keep me on track to pursue my goals. I am white belt and I turned 50 this year!

"Natalie "

My wee one started karate just a few weeks ago but Sensei Callum has made him feel really welcome and so patient with him!

"Phil"

I've been training with Sensei Callum at JKS Glasgow for the past few months with my daughter, he's a fantastic instructor and I would highly recommend giving his club a go.

"Gemma"

You will not be disappointed! My husband and I joined JKS Arrochar with our kids to be productive with our hour. After 8 months of weekly karate-ing as a family, learning & training together we are now beginning to take extra Kumite and kata classes to improve our skills together - first grading for 3 of us this weekend! We absolutely love it!

"Would highly recommend this club. Sensei Callum is an exceptional karate instructor with plenty of experience and knowledge. JKS Clyde is a family club that teaches traditional karate with a modern approach. With many opportunities for all ages and abilities you should definitely give the free trial a go "

Seon Mclaren (JKS Glasgow)

"If you're looking for a karate club, then look no further. Sensei Callum is genuinely friendly & supportive, as well as being fully committed to helping each and every student reach their potential. The club has a vast array of knowledge & experience amongst all of its students, each & everyone of which is more than happy helping the student next to them fine tune & build on their skills."

Simon Brudenell

"Great training with Callum Sensei very knowledgeable and has great warm attitude. Club is very welcoming to all. Went back to training after a long break and loving every bit of being part of the Karate family again. All made easier with Callum sensei ."

Barbara Morgan

"Tony Knight"

Fantastic class in a fantastic venue, something I really look forward to each week to blow off a bit of steam!

"Rhona Knight"

My son attends this local karate school and it has proved to be highly beneficial for his mental and physical health. The school provides a structured environment for him to improve his physical fitness, while also teaching him discipline, focus, and respect. The instructors are knowledgeable and attentive, and they have created a supportive community that encourages my son to continually push himself to new levels. Overall, I would highly recommend this karate school to anyone looking for a positive and healthy activity for their child.

"Jenna Mcginney"

Sensei Callum is amazing! Callum has so much passion for this martial art and it shows, every member enjoys his sessions, Callum teaches in a way I have never seen before, my son loves it so much that he wants to add another session. Prices are also very reasonable considering in what you get in return. The community that attends are buzzing about this club. If you are a adult or a child (from 7yrs and above) and want to learn a new skill from someone who is not only qualified, passionate and a great Sensei then this club will change your life! Thanks so much Sensei Callum you inspire us all!

"My daughters have been attending classes with Callum Sensei for some time now & thoroughly enjoy it. They are preparing for their first grading & getting working hard in class & with online support for home practice. Thoroughly recommend Callum Sensei & JKS Clyde. I am enjoying para Karate with JKS Clyde."

Eileen McEwan

"It’s about 30 years since I last went to a karate class. My boy, 8, has been wanting to do it for ages so when we heard the class was starting in Garelochhead I had to take him. Callum is a very good instructor for all ages, and makes it enjoyable whilst teaching the discipline required for us students to progress. I’m very happy to be doing karate again, and even more so with my little boy. Highly recommended for all the family!"

Simon Lee

"I have been to a number of karate lessons with JKS Clyde, and I have had a phenomenal time at each one. Callum is patient, friendly, and particularly great with the kids. Every lesson is something new, whilst also going over the previous ones so you feel you are building up your confidence each time. Definitely the highlight of my week!"

Nathan Mcvey
